New on the Side Photographic Collection Online - Richard Grassick's POST INDUSTRIAL. Developed as part of Coalfield Stories, Side's on-going exploration of Durham's post-industrial experience, this exhibition was shown at Side Gallery in Summer 2004.
Side Photographic Collection Online: Lives & landscapes of Northern England, classics of documentary, historical northern documentary and contemporary explorations of the wider world: a documentary photography archive was started when Amber film & photography collective came to Newcastle upon Tyne in 1969.
In 1977 it opened Side Gallery, building the range and number of bodies of work through its own production, its commissions, purchases and acquisitions. These online exhibitions are drawn from this unique collection: some 2,000 documentary photographs are featured, here, in over 80 bodies of work by more than 40 different photographers.
